John Waters, Niche Marketer? « Effective, Creative Graphic Design Solutions | NYC, DC, Philly | Logo | Web | Print | Collateral | Advertising | Consulting
May 2011 04

Oh, John Waters! You either love him or could totally live without him. Honestly, I am more the latter but I appreciate his vision and his artistry nonetheless. This inspirational, rebellious filmmaker is a master in how he recognizes how tastes are ever-changing and that it is rather, what I would like to call, the “Artistry of Intention”, that lies behind making something magical and by extension, successful.  He took risks and built a rabid cult following that segued into more mainstream work (Hairspray on Broadway reaped $200 million) that still imbues his memorable “bad taste” aesthetic. You could never mistake a John Waters film for someone else’s or vice versa!

There is no better feeling when that one awesome client also sees the need for “intention” and doesn’t choose to go blindly about trying to get every single bottom feeder in the tank. That’s pretty much niche-marketing in a nutshell. Discovering your niche on the net or within your local community will help you compete with the Amazon’s of the world. You just can’t offer what they can so why not offer what they can’t? If you think about it the right way–this is very liberating! It frees you to become the most authentic business doing what you’re doing, out there. Your perfect niche market is that location or domain in which you are most readily accessible to the people who are most likely to benefit from (and thus value) the offer that you are and in which you are simultaneously most free to exercise your brilliance.

Your niche market is the place in which you can compete best because you occupy the right place in that community. Within that community, you are highly visible and accessible to the people who could benefit from your services or talent–including prospective clients and customers, collaborators and partners, and others with whom there could be mutually beneficial relationships.

Don’t forget that when planning your next marketing effort! We offer strategies, services, and marketing solutions that help drive targeted business your way.
